Syracuse Finding Success on the Recruiting Trail Once Again

One of the overarching themes that we have seen across the recruiting landscape the past few moths is top players decommiting from Syracuse and flipping elsewhere. Both 2019 and 2020 players were making this decision and we saw this for nearly two months. Some of the most recent notable flips include 2019 Hill Academy (ON) attackman Josh Zawada who flipped from Syracuse to Michigan where he signed on National Signing Day. 2020 Poway (CA) midfielder Marquez White is another big name that flipped from Syracuse. White flipped to Princeton just over a week ago.

That trend of players decommiting or flipping from Syracuse, a traditional lacrosse power, has Syracuse fans is a state of frantic. The truth is that none of those five flips meant that much to the future of Syracuse lacrosse. Of course it would have been great to see those guys ball out in the Carrier Dome, but Syracuse has a ton of young talent on that team. So, Syracuse fans you all are still Syracuse and will be just fine.

Now that trend of players flipping from Syracuse has seemed to have been reversed as the Orange picked up two commitments in the 2020 class this week. Salisbury (CT)/Sweetlax -2020 defenseman Caden Kol announced his commitment to Syracuse on December 1st. Lake Ridge (OR)/ West Coast Stars - 2020 faceoff specialist Jack Savage committed to Syracuse on December 3rd. Savage's commitment to the Orange was made about two months after he decommitted from Rutgers.

Getting those two commitments this week really gave Syracuse fans something to smile about after nearly two months of disappointing news from top players decommiting. Syracuse fans also found out what their pre-season ranking was from Inside Lacrosse.

Syracuse currently has the 19th ranked 2020 recruiting class in the country. Their 2020 class is headlined by 4-star player such as Torrey Pines (CA)/RC Lacrosse - 2020 attackman Blake Erlbeck, West Essex (NJ(/BBL - 2020 LSM Tommy Drago, Gilman (MD)/Baltimore Crabs defenseman Jack Witherspoon, and Victor (NY)/Sweetlax-2020 attackman Camden Hay.
