NJIT Joining the NEC in 2020

The NEC is growing once again as NJIT has been accepted as a member for men’s lacrosse. This comes after Merrimack was announced to come up from DII to DI in all sports starting in the 2019-2020 school year and join the NEC. LIU Post and LIU Brooklyn have also announced that they will be combining athletic departments and will be DI and join the NEC conference in 2019-2920 as well.

NJIT has been an independent since the programs first year of competition in 2015. The Highlanders will begin okay in the NEC starting in the 2019-2020 season. NJIT is the third team to join the NEC for lacrosse in 2020 as they will make it a 10 team conference. The Highlanders will be the third associate member of the NEC for lacrosse, along with Hobart and Saint Joseph’s.

The Highlanders come into the 2019 season after a 2018 campaign where they went 1-15. Their single win came over Hampton in April by a score of 15-8. NJIT faces two NEC teams last season in Wagner and Saint Joseph’s.
