CUFLA Week 5 Recap: Playoff Race Heats up in The West

First and foremost Happy Thanksgiving to all those across Canada. Because of the holiday weekend there weren't many games in the CUFLA during week five, but there were games nonetheless.

It was a week that started a little earlier than usual as we saw Guelph defeat Toronto by a score of 11-7 on Thursday night. That game was a very hard fought battle as Toronto came all the way back from being down 10-2 to almost complete the comeback. Guelph would be able to hold onto the lead as they got the 11-7 victory.

On Friday Trent would get yet another win as they beat Carleton 18-7. Trent is one of three teams along with McGill and Western that can still claim undefeated status. Western also got another win as they defeated McMaster 16-4 on Saturday. Laurier would get a much needed win on Saturday as they defeated Laurentian 11-8 on Friday. That game pitted two of the leagues bottom dwellers in the west against each other.

Week 5 Leaders

Cody Ward, Western

On Friday Ward would help lead his team to a 16-4 victory over McMaster at home. In the win Ward was able to put up 8 points (5g,3A). That win helped the Western Mustangs stay undefeated and atop the West.

Alex Kew, Laurier

Kew had a pretty good week as he helped his team get an 11-8 victory on Friday. In that win Kew led the way with 5 points (3G,2A). That win helps Laurier at least creep a little closer to being in the playoff conversation.

Michael Mayes, Laurentian

Mayes would help Laurentian go 1-1 last week as they lost to Laurier but would defeat Toronto. In their loss to Laurier Mayes had 1 goal for 1 point. Against Toronto in the win Mayes put up 5 points (3G,2A).
