Peterborough Takes Mann Cup Game One in Sudden Death OT

The Mann Cup got underway on Friday night in Peterborough with an instant classic. After a seven point second period that put Peterborough up 10-5 heading into the third Maple Ridge would mount an impressive comeback and force overtime. 

Entering overtime it was tied at 11 all and both sides would get their fare share of looks on cage. Neither team wanted to give in as we would head to a second sudden death overtime with it tied 13 all. Adam Jones would score off a Corey Small assist to give Peterborough the 14-13 in in game one. 

Maple Ridge would be led on offense by Ben McIntosh, Curtis Dickson, and Dan Taylor among others. McIntosh led the team in points with 8 (4G,4A). Dickson followed with 7 points (3,G,4A) while Taylor put up 6 points (6G,2A). In goal for Maple Ridge Frank Scigliano had 56 saves off of 69 shots. 

For Peterborough they were led by the likes of Shawn Evans, Adam Jones, and Holden Cattoni. Evans put up 8 points (2G,6A) while Jones had 6 points (4G,2A). Cattoni was able to tally 4 points (1G,3A) in the win. Matt Vinc played a little bit in goal for Peterborough, but Evan Kirk got the majority of the minutes. Kirk ended the game with 44 saves off of 57 shots in the win. 

As game one was an all-time classic it really set the stage for what to expect for the rest of the Mann Cup. Game two will be played Saturday night at 7PM. You can watch all the action from the 2018 Mann Cup with Lacrosse TV
