Matt Neufeldt Heading to Denver as a Grad Transfer

Former Maryland LSM Matt Neufeldt is heading to Denver in 2019 as a graduate transfer. Neufeldt played just three seasons at Maryland as he missed the entire 2016 season with a injury that he suffered in the offseason. He returned to the lineup in 2017 as he helped Maryland capture their first national title in 42 years.

Over his career at Maryland Neufeldt had 181 ground balls, 53 caused turnovers, 4 goals, and 6 assist. Just last season he tallied 53 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers, and 4 assist.

Neufeldt is a great addition to the Pioneers in 2019 as he brings a championship pedigree while joining a crowded LSM unit that only lost one guy last season. Despite the LSM position being crowded at Denver Neufeldt should be the for sure started this season for the Pioneers as he has obviously shown his worth during his time at Maryland.

  1. Neufeldt is a great replacement for LSM Sean Mayle. Denver's defense will be as good as anyone's, but DU needs to find a way to become faster and more efficient offensively, as the loss of Trevor Baptiste to graduation (and the extra posessions he created) and a new shot clock are going to force DU to play much faster. DU's other big question mark is in goal. Alex Ready can be solid at times, but has never been quite as steady as one would expect of an upperclassman at a top program. We'll see if he can even keep his job this year, as Austin French's little brother joining DU as a top-level goalie recruit may be just the guy to push Ready in a way that other DU goalies could not do for the last couple of years.
