Cannella Signs Two-Year Extension With UMass

UMass has announced that Greg Cannella has signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him at UMass through 2021. This is the second year in a row that Cannella has signed an extension with UMass. This is very well deserved and many in the lacrosse community have shown their gratitude towards Coach Cannella throughout the years as he is one of the greatest coaches in the game.

Coming off a CAA championship and NCAA tournament berth in 2018. Cannella will be entering his 27th season overall and 25th as the head coach in 2019. Cannella is the second longest tenured head lacrosse coach at the division I level. Throughout his career he has compiled an impressive 206-142 record in 24 years at the helm of the Minutemen.

Over his time at UMass Cannella has led the Minutemen to nine NCAA tournament appearances with five quarterfinal appearances. In 2006 the Minutemen reached the final four and the championship game where they took a tough defeat to Virginia.

Cannella has been named CAA Coach of the Year three times, the ECAC Coach of the Year four times, and has been named the New England Coach of the Year five times. In 2006 he was the USILA National Coach of the Year.
