2018 Mann Cup Preview

The 2018 Mann Cup gets underway on Friday as the Maple Ridge Burrards and Peterborough Lakers will battle it out in a best of seven series for Canada's Senior A lacrosse championship. In the Mann Cup the Peterborough will represent Ontario and the MSL while Maple Ridge will represent British Columbia and the WLA.

Team Previews

Peterborough Lakers

The Peterborough Lakers are heading to the Mann Cup for the second straight year after winning the MSL championship. In the regular season Peterborough went 12-3 as they sat atop the league and clinched the number one seed in the MSL playoffs. In the first round of the MSL playoffs Peterborough defeated the Brooklin  4-3 in the best of 7 series. Against Oakville in the MSL finals the series would go to six games as Peterborough won 4-2 in the best of seven series to capture the 2018 MSL title.

Peterborough has no shortage of talent as their top three point scorers are Shawn Evans, Holden Cattoni, and Kyle Buchanan. Evans led the team in the playoffs with 53 points (13G,40A). Cattoni had 42 points (19G,23A) while Buchanan also put up 42 points ( 12G,30A). Adam Jones, Corey Small, and Josh Currier are just a few other names that have contributed heavily for Peterborough as well. 

On defense Peterborough is strong with the likes of Jake Withers, Brock Sorenson, Robert Hope and others gracing the floor. In goal for Peterborough Matt Vinc played the majority of the minutes during the playoffs. Vinc would rack up 352 saves with an 82 percent save percentage as he helped lead them to an MSL championship. 

Maple Ridge Burrards

Maple Ridge is heading back to the Mann Cup as WLA champions for the first time since 2016 when they lost to Six Nations. In the regular season Maple Ridge went _ in the regular season. During the playoffs they defeated New Westminster in the first round to secure a spot in the WLA finals. Against Victoria in the finals Maple Ridge won the best of seven series 4-1 to capture the WLA championship and clinch a Berth in the Mann Cup.

Curtis Dickson, Ben McIntosh, and Dan Taylor are Maple Ridge's leading point scorers. In the playoffs Dickson had 42 points (28G,14A). McIntosh was able to put up 41 points (20G,21A) whole Taylor had 27 goals (9G,18A). Mike Mallory and Riley Loewen also contributed heavily for Maple Ridge on the offensive side of the floor.

Defensively Maple Ridge was led by Jeff Cornwall, Mitch Wilde, and Zack Porter among others. In goal for Maple Ridge Frank Scigliano played most of the minutes for Maple Ridge. Sciglino had 349 saves with an 84 percent saves percentage in the playoffs as he helped Maple Ridge capture a WLA championship.
