Danehy Hired as OC at Bucknell, Unterstein Named DC at North Carolina

In addition to Judd Lattimore being hired as a volunteer assistant at Boston both UNC and Bucknell announced new assistant coaches hirings on Thursday. 

Ryan Danehy has been hired as the offensive coordinator at Bucknell. Danehy has most recently lead the Turkish National Team in Israel this summer and is an assistant with the New York Lizards. Danehy’s most recent college coaching job was with Penn where he was the offensive coordinator.

Danehy also spent six years at Dartmouth, his alma mater, and had a two year stint as the offensive coordinator at Michigan. Danehy has also had roles in the club scene with 3d Lacrosse and Big 4HH. 

As a player Danehy was a four year starter at Dartmouth and was drafted 49th overall in the 2006 MLL draft by the Boston Cannons. He played five years in the MLL playing for the Cannons and Chicago Machine. Danehy was also a long snapper in college at Dartmouth. 

North Carolina has announced that Kevin Unterstein has been hired as their new defensive coordinator. Unterstein has a lot of DI coaching experience as he spent the last eight years as an assistant at Hofstra, his alma mater, with the past five years as the associate head coach.

During Unterstein's tenure at Hofstra he worked with the defense, man-down unit, and faceoff specialist. Prior to his coaching stint at Hofstra Unterstein was an assistant under Bill Tierney at Princeton in 2009. He would go to Denver with Tierney in 2010 as well.

Unterstein's played in college at Hofstra from 2005-2008. He is still currently playing professionally in the MLL with the New York Lizards. Unterstein was drafted 20th overall in the 2008 MLL draft by the New Jersey Pride. He has also spent time with the Denver Outlaws during his pro career.
