After multiple weeks of rumors it is finally official. Brodie Merrill has rejected the Toronto Rock's contract offer and will opt to sign else where for the 2018-19 season. Toronto Rock owner, president, and general manager Jamie Dawick offered Merrill a contract before free agency began on August 1st. Merrill has been the Captain of the Rock for a few seasons now and they will need to name a new one before the season starts. Dawick has said that there is no timeline for naming a new captain as of now.

Due to Merrill not re-signing with the Rock will receive compensation from the league in the form of a draft pick(s) in future NLL drafts following the 2018-19 season once Merrill signs with a team.  The exact compensation is calculated based on a formula that looks at the recent and potential future performance of the player.

Merrill has been a staple part of that Rock team since his first year in Toronto in 2015. Last season Merrill finished second on the team with 127 loose balls. He also had 22 points (6G,16A) and 14 caused turnovers.

As to where Merrill will take his talents is uncertain at this point but many speculate that San Diego is the front runner. Brodie Merrill's brother Patrick is the head coach of the new San Diego franchise and the two also run and coach the Hill Academy in Ontario together. It's pretty safe to say that San Diego is the clear front runner and there is a huge possibility that Brodie Merrill will be a Seal in the 2018-19 season.
