Colgate has named Notre Dame assistant Matt Karweck as the Raiders new head coach. Karweck will replace Mike Murphy who stepped down from the position last month. This really is a home run hire and I think it could turn out to be the best head coaching hire this offseason.

Karweck has spent six years of his college coaching experience as an assistant at his alma mater, Notre Dame. The Irish compiled a 64-30 record while during Karweck's time in South Bend. While at Notre Dame Karweck helped the Irish to six straight NCAA tournament appearances and two ACC championships.

Prior to Notre Dame Karweck spent one year as a head coach at both Merrimack and Detroit Mercy. Karweck got his start in college coaching as the head coach for Indian's club team from 2007-10 where he lead them to a conference championship in 2009.

As a player Karweck played at Notre Dame from 2003-06. After he finished his college playing days he went over to England and played professionally in the English Lacrosse Premiership for the Sheffield Steelers. Karweck also played two seasons in the MLL for the Chicago Machine.
