Iroquois Defeat Puerto Rico to Advance to Semifinals

In this very tight game the Iroquois would be able to finally pull away in the second half as they got the 14-7 win over Puerto Rico. With this win the Iroquois will advance to the semifinals and play Canada. Puerto Rico will go to the 5th-8th place bracket and will play the winner of England vs Ireland.

Puerto Rico would start this game out very strong. Kevin McNally would get a very early hat tick as he put Puerto Rico up 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Iroquois would have some chances but just couldn't convert those into goals. This Puerto Rican offense looked very good as they took advantage of the Iroquois defense to get out to the early lead.

The Iroquois would start to get their offense going in the second quarter as they started with a 3-0 run. During that three goal run the Iroquois would get goals from Miles Thompson, Austin Staats, and Lyle Thompson. Puerto Rico would answer with a Desiderio Gonzales goal but the Iroquois would come right back with two. Randy Staats and Tehoka Nanticoke would get their first goals and make it 5-4 Iroquois late in the second. Puerto Rico would tie it at 5-5 with a Will Ramos goal and that would be the half.

In the third quarter we would see the game remain pretty close but the Iroquois would be able to maintain their lead. Austin Staats would get the scoring started off in the third as he put Iroquois up 6-5. Puerto Rico would answer with a Desiderio Gonzales goal to tie it at 6-6. That would be Gonzales second goal of the game. The Iroquois would score three more goals and the Puerto Rico would get one. For the Iroquois Austin Staats, Kyle Jackson, and Randy Staats would all get goals in the third. Scott Bieda would score for Puerto Rico. That would make it a 9-7 Iroquois lead heading into the fourth as they started to pull away.

Iroquois would finish their business in the fourth as they dominated by going on a five goal run to secure the 12-7 victory. We would see Kyle Jackson and Ty Thompson score twice while Mies Thompson would score once in the fourth. The Iroquois were able to use their impressive offense to pull away and secure this win in the final quarter of play.
