Dillon Ward leads Canada to Big Win Over Iroquois

Goalie Dillon Ward would step out front as he lead his team to a great 10-5 victory over the Iroquois Nationals.

The Iroquois would get a lot of opportunities but they just couldn't capitalize enough, especially in the first half. When they were able to finish they would do it in style. The defense was almost nonexistent sometimes and that really hurt them as well.

You have to credit Canada's victory to one man and one man only. Goalie Dillon Ward would anchor that defense and lead his team to victory. He made so many saves all night long, including 16 in the first half. If Dillon Ward was not in cage for Canada they would have lost. That is how big he was in this win.

It would be all Canada in the first as they dominated on both ends of the field. On offense they would put on a pretty display of passing and goal scoring as they went up 3-0. Curtis Dickson would have two and Josh Byrne would have one during that run. On defense they were very effective, especially late in the quarter. The Iroquois had plenty of good shots and opportunities but just couldn't capitalize. Heading into the second it would be 3-0 Canada.

Kevin Crowley would start off the scoring in the second as he made it 4-0 Canada. The Iroquois had plenty of opportunities but Canada goalie Dillon Ward would stand tall as he made save after save. The Iroquois would finally get on the board as Ty Thompson netted one midway through the second. We would then see Randy Staats catch a pass from Miles Thompson and put it past Ward. That would make it a two goal 4-2 lead for Canada. Kevin Crowley would take advantage of that Iroquois defense once more before the half. That would give Canada a 5-2 lead over Iroquois at the half.

The Iroquois defensive woes would continue in the third as Canada would start with a 4-0 run. During that run Mark Cockerton and Wes Berg would each have two. The Iroqouois would finally have a positive possession as Miles Thompson was able to stop the bleeding. That Canada defense was very stout the whole third which made it tough for the Iroquois. As the third came to an end Canada would be leading 8-3.

Canada would get the scoring started off by way of Ben McIntosh. The Iroquois would counter with a two goal run that would cut the Canada lead to 9-5. During that run the Iroquois would get goals from Randy Staats and Frank Brown. However, Canada would get their mojo back as Ben McIntosh would net his second of the day to put Canada back up 10-5. That would be the last of it as Canada secured the 10-5 win over the Iroquois as they rode Dillon Ward's goalie play the whole game.
