MLL Weekend Preview: Week 11; Can The Underdogs Capitalize

Coming off of a very exciting MLL All-Star game on Saturday night where the MLL All-Stars took down Team USA 15-14 in Overtime we have some actual regular season games this week. Now, this is always a week where underdogs seem to be able to pull out wins. Many players will be tired from playing in the All-Star game. Also, Team USA had their training camp all week long so that just adds to the tired legs for those guys. Nonetheless, it will be a interesting and exciting week of lacrosse in the MLL.

New York Lizards (4-5) vs Ohio Machine (2-7) - 7:00 PM

This should be a pretty good offensive battle. The Lizards are coming off of an upset loss against Boston last week and they want to redeem themselves. Rob Pannell has been playing very good for New York as of late as he currently lead the league in scoring with fifty seven points. Rabil and other have also been playing great this season as well but they just can't let up. Last week they did not play a full game and that cost them.

Ohio will have somewhat of a new defense as Ben Randall will be entering his second game with the Machine. The question many are asking is can Ohio's defense stop that New York offense. Now, that Ohio offense will still be missing Kyle Harrison, and maybe Tom Schreiber. Schreiber did play in the ASG and looked pretty good with Team USA. Guys like Marcus Holman will again lead the way offensively for Ohio. They really just need to play the lacrosse they know and get the job done.

Charlotte Hounds (6-4) vs Atlanta Blaze (3-6) - 7:30 PM

First off this game is taking place in Charleston, SC at MUSC Health Stadium where the MLL Championship game will be. This is because Charlotte's stadium could not host a game this weekend.

Charlotte and Atlanta both have great offenses and can really put up a lot of goals. Charlotte will see Connor Fields in his third game and hopefully he can put on another great show. Guys like Matt Rambo have been great for Charlotte all season and should continue that this week. Charlotte really just needs to play with energy all game on both sides of the ball and they can get this win.

Atlanta and that great attack unit have seen success but they know they can do a lot more. Really I haven't seen Atlanta put together a full game this season. They really need that if they want any chance at making the playoffs. They can't just rely on that offense. They need to put it together at both ends.

Monday, July 2nd

Chesapeake Bayhawks (6-2) vs Boston Cannons (3-6)

This looks like a lopsided game at first glance but the Cannons can make some noise as they come off an upset win over New York last week. Chesapeake has just picked up Jermey Sieverts in a trade from Boston and I am really excited to see him there. That offense is stellar and Sieverts really ups the level of play even more. That offense will need to be on full display this week again if they don't want to slip up against the Cannons.

Boston has been playing better some weeks and really bad other weeks. They are just all over the place and I really think if they control the ball they can win. That offense and defense is good enough to slow down the pace, even with the shot clock, and be successful. That offense needs to be pretty flawless and that defense needs to be tough again. The only big blow is that they wont have Will Sands as he is out for the season which really stinks. Oh yeah, Trevor Baptiste can also control possessions for Boston as well at the faceoff dot.
