MLL Weekend Preview: Week 10; It's Panic Button Time!

Week 10 will be the last week we have of true great MLL lacrosse. We are one week from the MLL All-Star game and then the FIL World Championships will get underway in Israel. So, we won't see a team that is fully complete for a few weeks after this weekend. Also, we are at the midway point in the season and we can see which teams are contenders and pretenders. Some teams may have only a slim chance, if any, to make the playoffs if they take a loss this weekend.

Big News

The biggest news that came out this week was that Jermey Sieverts has been moved from Denver's active roster to the player pool. That is huge news as he has been a huge part of that organization over his career there. Now we will see a bidding war of sorts for Sieverts. I would say that I can see him going to Chesapeake because of his connection with coach Cottle, but Ohio and Boston need him the most.

The biggest trade this week was Charlotte trading Ben Randall (D) and a 7th round draft pick to Ohio in exchange for Matt McMahon (D).

The MLL has released the 2018 All-Star Game Helmets and Jerseys and I must say that they are pretty sweet!

Other Transactions

  • Denver adds Christian Burgdorf (D) from Practice to LSAR and moves Graham Bocklet from LSAR to Practice Squad
  • Dallas Moves Jordan Macintosh to IR - 2 weeks
  • Charlotte adds John Crawley to LSAR from IR, moves Kevin Cooper to IR- 2 weeks
  • Atlanta moves Jeff Reynolds to IR - 2 weeks

Boston Cannons (2-6) vs New York Lizards (4-4) - 6:00 PM

This looks to be a one sided game if you look at how each of these teams have been playing recently. Boston is going to have some trouble stopping New York at all. The Lizards offense was on fire last week and they will be looking to replicate that again. Boston's defense really just won't be able to stop New York's attack if they can replicate that performance.

Boston may be able to get some extra possessions if Baptiste can have a big day at the faceoff dot. The offense may be able to find those holes in New York's defense that we all know they have. That Boston offense will need to work that ball around and get that defense out of sync. They really just need the ball fist. If Boston doesn't win I can't see them making the playoffs this year, again.

Ohio Machine (2-6) vs Denver Outlaws (5-4) - 6:00 PM

A Championship rematch that looks to be pretty one sided. Denver has been playing fantastic the past few weeks and I can't really see them slowing down now. Cloutier and Law are expected to have big games again. That will give the Machine defense some trouble. Denver's defense should be able to control that banged up Ohio offense. It really should be another great game for Denver.

Ohio's defense will look a little different with Ben Randall in that unit now. So, that will be interesting to see how well he plays with Ohio as he was playing great with Charlotte. Ohio's offense is still banged up and I feel like they will really struggle against Denver. They are another team that needs a win or they may not make the playoffs.

Atlanta Blaze (3-5) vs Dallas Rattlers (7-2) - 7:00 PM

Now this will be a game you won't want to miss. The amount of offense in this game should be insane. Atlanta has a great offense with guys like Palasek, Gibson, and Rice. This should be another great game for Atlanta, but the role players need to step up more. That is one thing they were missing last week. The Blaze are a god team but we need to see a full game from them this week if they want to win.

Dallas is the hottest team in the MLL though this point of the season. Guys like Ty Thompson have been playing very well and should continue. They also have Ben Reeves now who played pretty good in his MLL debut last week. I really expect Dallas play great and with a lot of energy as they have done the past couple off week, and really all season.

Charlotte Hounds (6-3) vs Florida Launch (3-6) -7:30 PM

I have really liked what I have seen from Charlotte so far and I don't expect any different this week. The Hounds are one of the most complete teams in the MLL and they haven't missed many steps. The only big question mark this week is how well can Matt McMahon play with that defense. Also, can Connor Fields contribute more in his second MLL game?

Florida has been struggling this season. They need a win or it may be too late to turn things around. They have great players like Dylan Malloy who can produce a ton of offense. They jus can't seem to put a full game together and they need to do that. It is panic time for the Lauch and they need to find out how to fix it now. The one sure thing is that Dylan Malloy, Kieran McArdle, and Connor Buczek will produce, but can the rest of that Launch team?
