Season Recap: NJIT

The NJIT Highlanders finished 2018 with a 1-15 record. This marked the fourth season as a program fr the Highlanders. They only have three program wins in all.
They have progressed as they took a lot of close loses this season that could have potentially gone either way. I feel that they need to find a conference soon if they want to surpass what they have already currently done.

Statistically speaking, the Highlanders looked bad in some areas and better in others. Some areas where they looked good in were caused turnovers, ground balls, and clearing. NJIT had 105 caused turnovers last season as that D looked pretty good. They picked up 403 ground balls and went 227-289 in the clearing game, .794 percent. The Highlanders could have been better on the offensive side of the ball though as they had a shooting percentage of .243 and only had 63 assist as a team. Also, they only converted 17-67 man-up opportunities. As I was able to watch the Highlanders a few times this year I really saw how disproportionate they were as a whole team. That defense seemed to be a lot better than their offense. At times the two units did look better, but for the most part it was pretty clear.

Whats Next?

As this was their fourth season as a program they will lose some of the guys that helped start the program as freshman. They will only lose three players as they have one senior and then two fifth year seniors. That is good news because they actually have a lot of youth coming back next season. Their biggest loss will be starting goalie Nick Marzullo. So their will most likely be a goalie battle this fall.
