Season Recap: Holy Cross

The Holy Cross Crusaders 2018 season is really a story of two parts. Theses two different parts of the season are the pre and post Judd Lattimore administrative leave.
The Crusaders head coach Judd Lattimore was put on administrative leave after he made his players run wind sprints at halftime of their game against Brown on March 20th. The Crusaders seemed to be a completely different team after that. They started to win and play a lot better. So, maybe that's the move that needed to be made in Worcester, MA.

Holy Cross finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 4-9, and a 2-6 record in the Patriot League. They really struggled early but seemed to turn the corner near the end of the season. Maybe it something to do with their head coach being placed on administrative leave. Their season was plagued by losses and ruckus. Holy Cross started the season with two losses before upsetting Harvard. The Crusaders would then go on a five game losing streak before beating Quinnipac. They would then beat Colgate and Lafayette in conference at the end of the season.

The Crusaders looked pretty good in some areas and then not so great in other areas of the game. A few areas where they were good this year were ground balls, caused turnovers, and clears. The Crusades scooped up 346 ground balls, caused 101 turnovers, and had a clearing percentage of .856. Those were the areas where they were best this year.

Now, they did struggle a lot on offense as they didn't have a great shooting percentage or assist numbers at all. Another thing is that they were 10-48 on man-up opportunities. That is not fantastic by any stretch. They also struggled in many other areas as well. The Crusaders just had a hard time producing at all.

Whats Next?

The first thing is the question of a new head coach. Will Judd Lattimore be reinstated as the head coach? If not, when will they announce his firing? There are a lot of questions about the coaching situation and that is pretty important. Now, the Crusaders don't loose that many seniors from this years squad. In fact, they only lose 4 players. In total they lose 24 points but Logan LeBlond had 20 of those. That is not a big loss at all. A small senior class is good news for a program like Holy Cross. That means they have youth that they can develop.
