NLL Weekend Preview: Week 18; Playoff Race Heating Up

We have reached week 18 of the 2017-18 NLL season. Last week the western division was decided as Calgary beat Vancouver to clinch the last spot in the west. Vancouver is now the only team that has been eliminated from the playoff race.
So, in the west we will see Saskatchewan, Colorado, and Calgary in the playoffs. The only thing to be decided is who is the number one seed. With a win on Saturday Saskatchewan can clinch the western division title. They will have to go through a very tough Colorado Mammoth team to get that title though. In the east it is still madness, and it isn't even march anymore. So, in the east nothing has been decided yet.

In some other news Steve Govett, President of the San Diego Seals, announced that Patrick Merrill would be the Head Coach and GM of the Seals next season. The Seals are an expansion team that will start play in the 2018-19 season.

We will only have three games on tap this weekend. The games will start on Saturday as the Colorado Mammoth will take on the Saskatchewan Rush on the road. On Sunday the Calgary Roughnecks will travel to take on the New England Blackwolves and the Toronto Rock will take on the Georgia Swarm in Georgia. That game will be the Twitter game of the week.

Saturday, April 7th

Saskatchewan Rush (11-3) vs Colorado Mammoth (11-3)

The Mammoth will travel up to Saskatoon to take on the Rush. This game is a very important game in the western division. If the Rush can get a win then they will clinch the number one seed in the west. If the Mammoth win it gives them a little more breathing room, but I am pretty sure Saskatchewan will eventually clinch the west. This game is very big for both of these squads. Also, this will most likely be the western division finals. I feel that Saskatchewan will win this game just because of how they are playing this season. Although, this is NLL lacrosse and anything can happen. I just know that this game will be WILD!

Sunday, April 8th

New England Blackwolves (6-8) vs Calgary Roughnecks (6-8)

This game will be very good. This is a cross division match up that each team will want to win. Calgary is in the playoffs but New England is in the east and nothing has been decided there. I really feel that New England will be wanting this win more as they need a win and it's at their home. That is always a good advantage to have. One thing that needs to be looked at is wether Calgary will rest anyone because they already clinched a playoff spot? So, keep your eye out there. Overall, this game will be very good as both teams are pretty even.

Georgia Swarm (7-7) vs Toronto Rock (7-7) - Twitter Game of The Week

This game will be crucial. Both teams are sitting about two games back from first place in the east. Whoever wins this game will have an upper hand in the eastern division playoff race. Also, who ever loses will then be further back than they already are. This game will be a great one to watch for free on Twitter. Toronto has struggled since losing Tom Schreiber and Georgia has been progressivley getting better over the season. One little rumor is that Tom Schreiber may be back as soon as this weekend! I know Toronto fans will be glad to hear that. Just will just be a battle down in the ATL.
