Gameday! UVA vs JHU, Pacific Coast Shootout, More Conference Play Starting Up

Pacific Coast Shootout

It's finally Saturday and that means College lacrosse, and a lot of it.
There are a lot of great games today. Also, more teams are now in conference play. I'm pretty sure the conference that hasn't had at leas one conference game yet is the Big Ten, CAA, and obviously the independents. Some of the headline games today are Virginia vs Johns Hopkins and Maryland vs North Carolina in the Pacific Coast Shootout.

Notable Non-Conference Games

  Virginia vs Johns Hopkins
This game is a very historic rivalry game. These two team play for the Doyle Smith cup each and every year. Virginia is coming off a loss against Notre Dame last week, and a close win over Dartmouth on Tuesday. Virginia has had trouble since Ryan Conrad went down against Syracuse. They really want to be more consistent this game. Johns Hopkins has been playing very well and they want to stay rolling. That Blue Jay offense is looking well and they want to keep it that way.

  Denver vs Towson
These two teams have had two very different season so far. Towson has struggled early and is just stating to find their feet in some respects. Denver, lead by FO man Trevor Baptiste, has been outstanding all season. they have some very good wins under their belt. Towson is younger on the offensive side of the ball than Denver and that may cause problems, as it has all year for the Tigers. If Denver can win the faceoff battle with Baptiste, again, they have an opportunity to win this game big.

  Maryland vs North Carolina
The Pacific Coast shootout is always a great event. These two teams are among the elite in college lacrosse, and will be battling it out in Cali. This has been a great event in the past and I don't expect any different this year. Maryland has an upper hand in this game, pretty much every where. North Carolina has not been playing particularly good this season. If UNC wants to get a spark before diving into ACC play this is the game to do it.

Notable Conference Games

            ACC

Duke vs Syracuse - Two teams that want to get a conference win and prove their worth. Cuse needs this win more than Duke does, that's for sure.

        America East

Hartford vs Stony Brook - Both of these teams have struggled thus far and look to get ahead in the conference race with a win.

           Big East

Georgetown vs Marquette - The only Big East game this week is one to watch. Can Georgetown bounce back after being upset by Drexel and will Marquette ever get any groove back this season? Those are the big questions coming into this game and Big East play.

           Ivy League

Yale vs Princeton - Two highly touted teams go head to head. Princeton wants to bounce back and Yale wants to keep winning and earn more respect.

Penn vs Cornell - Penn is a very good team as well as Cornell. This game should be a shootout between two team looking to top Yale in the Ivy this year.

           MAAC

Monmouth vs Detroit Mercy - Two teams that look to be sitting a top the MAAC at the end of the year. Monmouth may have an edge here but Detroit Mercy has been playing well and looks to get their second conference win.

        Patriot League

Colgate vs Army - Two of the best teams in the Patriot League go up against each other in a battle of Upstate NY. This game should be interesting as Colgate has a great offense, but can they top that Army defense.

Loyola vs Bucknell - Wow, did someone say offense? This game will be a complete shootout. Loyola with Pat Spence has a great offense, as does Bucknell. This should be a high powered offensive game.

            NEC

Sacred Heart vs Bryant - These two teams have been pretty good to start the season. I like how Sacred Heart has been playing better then Bryant, but Bryant has a good squad. This will be an interesting matchup. Bryant gave Yale some trouble a few weeks ago so I'm interested to see how they fare against SHU.

        SoCon

High Point vs Richmond - This is an interesting matchup. Richmond was upset by Furman last week in SoCon play and HPU beat Bellarmine. Richmond needs to show consistency and bounce back after a loss. In High Point's situation they want to show that they can be a real threat in the SoCon.
