The Bluegrass 6: Week 1 & 2

Finally, after the second week of the season almost every college team in the State of Kentucky has played at leas one game through this young 2018 college lacrosse season. The only two teams that have yet to play a game Asbury and University of the Cumberlands. All the other schools have played one game. So, let's get into those games.

Bellarmine (DI) (0-1)

I wrote about Bellarmine's loss against Robert Morris in my SoCon Report so here is that snippet.

Bellarmine opened up their season on Feb. 9th at home against Robert Morris. This game was a very tough one to watch. RMU got out to an early lead and the only real spark the Knights had all game was in the 3rd quarter. The Knights have a lot to adjust. The final score of that game ended up being a 15-7 loss. They have two games this coming week against Michigan on the road and then at home against Cleveland State.
Bellarmine vs Robert Morris Game Recap:

Centre (DIII) (1-0)

The Colonels' opened up their season on Saturday  at home against Piedmont. Centre was able to pull away and get their first victory of the 2018 season! This was a very exciting game as the Colonels' got a victory off of a last second shot. The final was 5-4. Here is that last second shot from Jack "The Cannon" Shannon.

The Colonels' seemed to have a god offensive performance as the sugar was well shared. The clear game was pretty strong as well. The D really had to be good as they only allowed 4 goals and 16 shots.  Here is the Recap and Box Score

Centre's next contest is on Wednesday at Huntingdon at 1:00 PM.

Transylvania (DIII) (0-1)

The Pioneers dropped their first game of the season to a very tough one to Wittenberg on Saturday. The pios lost 8-5 at home. From looking at the Recap it seems like both teams were pretty even but Wittenberg just had the upper hand. Transy was really good in the clear game and they also gobbled up a ton of ground balls. Transy should be fine from this point out. It was the first game and should I mention that Michael Webb started in the goal as a freshman. Here is the Box Score

The Pioneers will have to go up against Sewanee at home on Saturday March 3rd. That is quite some time to get better before their next game.

Union (NAIA) (0-1)

The Bulldogs played their first ever game on Sunday at Maryville - St. Louis. Even though it ended in a 13-3 loss, it was a huge milestone for the program. From the looks of it it seems as the Bulldogs struggled all over the place, which is expected of a new program. It looks like the offense was pretty lackluster though. The Goalie play looks phenomenal when compared to the other team. This is just one stepping stone to much more that is in store. Here is the Recap and Box Score
The Bulldogs next game will be on Feb. 24th at home against University of Michigan - Dearborn.
