SoCon Report : Week 1 & 2

This is our first SoCon Report of the 2018 season! We didn't do one last week because of the lack of teams that played. This week we will go over every team that has played a game so far and how they did. If a team has played more than one game we will do both. This won't be a very long post because there is so much to cover so we won't go that in depth.

Air Force (0-2)

The Falcons opened their season on the road at Duke on Feb. 3rd. That game Duke just exploited every single inch they could. Chris Walsch is apparently one of the players out with a suspension so that really hurt. They really got nailed as they lost 18-4. That was their 1st taste of life without coach Seremet and it was not good.
Air Force got their second game of the year at home against Denver. This game was a very snowy one so that is always hard for both teams. The final ended up being 11-5. It was a hard game to judge because of the weather but the Falcons still seem to be struggling. Their next game is against Marist.

Bellarmine (0-1)

Bellarmine opened up their season on Feb. 9th at home against Robert Morris. This game was a very tough one to watch. RMU got out to an early lead and the only real spark the Knights had all game was in the 3rd quarter. The Knights have a lot to adjust. The final score of that game ended up being a 15-7 loss. They have two games this coming week against Michigan on the road and then at home against Cleveland State.

Furman (0-2)

Furman opened their season and the entire college lacrosse season against Vermont. That game they had some struggles and lost 12-6. The Paladins bounced back and played very well on Saturday Feb. 10th against UNC. This was almost the upset of the week but the Paladins fell 15-14 in OT.

High Point (0-1)

High Point dropped their season opener to the Duke Blue Devils. High Point I felt played pretty well but overall Duke was just clearly more talented and athletic. High Point's next contest is on the road against Georgetown on the 13th.

Jacksonville (1-1)

The Dolphins have been the breakout team of the year so far. Jacksonville beat Navy 12-7. Jacksonville turned around the next week and took on Duke. JU struggled more in that game but they still played pretty well for who they were up against. They lost 19-8 in Durham. Their next game is in Milwaukee against Marquette on Saturday the 17th.

Mercer (0-2)

Mercer really struggled in their first two games. They dropped their first game against Vermont 11-3
and then lost to Lehigh 13-8. Their last game was a little bit better but they still need to improve. Their next contest is against Cleveland State on the 13th.

Richmond (0-1)

Richmond played pretty evenly with their opponent in their season opener. They traveled to UMBC and fell 9-6. They need to improve a little on D but all else seemed to be in sync as far as I can see. Their next contest will be against Bucknell on the 17th.

VMI (0-0)

VMI is the only SoCon who has yet to play a game. The Keydets will have their season opener on Saturday the 17th against a poorly performing Manhattan team.

Please don't overreact to these results. Week 1 and 2 are always weird because teams are just getting back into seasoned form and may still be figuring things out. Hope you enjoyed some games this weekend and can do the same this week.
