Midweek Notebook

The Diamondback

This week we have had plenty of good college lacrosse games. There have been almost a dozen DI games in just two days.
I love seeing that and really enjoy all the midweek games that the season brings. We have seen some ranking changing performances from certain teams and then we have seen some statement wins that should give teams more respect. Truth is, we have seen a little bit of everything this week and it's not even Saturday yet. That tells you one thing and one thing only. College Lacrosse is 100% back and 100% here to stay!

Game Notes:

Tuesday Games:

Richmond vs Mount St. Mary's
Richmond showed that they can win games with offense and that Teddy Hatfield is for real as he had 5 goals. The Mount showed that Towson wasn't a fluke and they can run with anyone. The NEC might want to watch out.

Binghamton vs Canisius
Binghamton showed that they are better than they played against Syracuse and Colgate but still came up short. Binghamton when with the ball can be very dangerous. Canisius is a pretty good team and was able to edge Binghamton on the road with a new head coach.

Harvard vs Holy Cross
Holy Cross beat Harvard in double overtime to get their 1st ever win over Harvard. What a historic night. Harvard may be overrated but it's too early to tell. Holy Cross might be for real but yet again it's early.

Jacksonville vs Detroit Mercy
Jacksonville got on track with a win and showed that the Navy game wasn't a fluke win. The Dolphins are for real. Detroit Mercy surprised me and showed that they have a decent team this year. They could potentially make some noise in the MAAC.

High Point vs Virginia
Virginia was able to avoid the upset with a late push and showed what that offense can do. High Point showed some real light and that they can play with the best of them, yet again.

Boston U. vs Dartmouth
Boston is head and shoulders above Dartmouth but the Big Green did show some signs of life here and there. BU really just dominated the whole game.

Lafayette vs Manhattan
I really like the way that both of these squads have been playing thus far. Manhattan got the W but not without having to fight to keep their lead late in the game. Was a great game between two pretty even teams.

Wednesday Games:

Wagner vs Monmouth
Monmouth asserted their dominance and got a win here. Wagner needs to go back to the drawing board and figure some things out.

Maryland vs Penn
Maryland put on a display on O and D as they were able to get the win. Penn really needed this win to boost them in the respect category but they couldn't handle the Terps.
